Facilitating Online Learning (EDTC 5503)
This course, which was the precursor to EDTC 5153, taught about effective instructional design and how to create online courses that were not only effective at teaching the course content they were designed to teach, but also practical and effective for the student population they were intended to serve. This is where I first developed the idea to create my "Real-World English" course, designed to be taught online in a flexible environment to best serve students that were not university-bound. My target audience with the design of this course is one that would primarily already be involved in on-the-job training or work-based-learning, so the course being online would be a great fit for them. These students are already shown to be driven and generally better at time management than the traditional student, and so practicing these pragmatic skills in a format that is also practical for their lifestyle was the obvious choice. These choices, as well as all other design choices for the course, are detailed in the document linked to the right, which is my course proposal for the class.
